Free comedy shows on the Peninsula

Most of what Peninsula Comedy does costs nothing to walk into. Bars in San Mateo, Burlingame, San Carlos, Belmont and Redwood City give us the room; comics from the city clubs do the sets; you buy a drink if you want one and tip the comics if they earned it. These are the upcoming shows with no cover.

Stand-Up & Sushi

9:00 PM - 10:30 PMBarracuda Sushi, Burlingame

With Emon Dismore, Nicole Tran, Gio Gio, Keanu Carmona, Megha Joshi, Jared Sena

The only stand-up show in downtown Burlingame. Dinner at 8, show at 9. Barracuda turns the dining room into a comedy club after the kitchen winds down, and the bar stays open through the show. Book a table for dinner if you want to eat first.

How free bar comedy works

Why are the shows free?

The bar makes money on a night that would otherwise be quiet, and the comics get a real audience outside the city. Nobody pays a cover. If the show was worth it, order something from the bar and tip the comics on the way out.

Is there a drink minimum at a free show?

No. None of the rooms enforce one.

Do I need a reservation for a free comedy show?

No, and most rooms cannot take one for the show itself. Seating is first come, first seated. Arrive thirty minutes early for a table. At Barracuda you can book dinner before the show.

Are free shows as good as a club show?

The lineups are working Bay Area comics, and the headliners come from the San Francisco Punchline, Cobb's, the San Jose Improv and Comedy Oakland. What you give up is a stage and a two-drink minimum. What you get is a bar you already like, a short drive, and nothing on the card.

Want a show with a headliner you have heard of? Those are usually ticketed. Full calendar or @peninsulacomedy.
